South Shore Mall
A super regional shopping center, the Westfield South Shore mall is located in Bayshore, Long Island, New York. The mall, opened in 1963, has four anchor stores. Macyís and JC Penney are two of them. Sears was added in 1997 along with 40,000 square feet of specialty stores, when the mall was also renovated, gaining a new floor, skylights and a food court. In 1998 a Lord & Taylor store was added, totaling 120,000 square feet.
The whole of Suffolk County is served by Westfield South Shore, the mallís clients having an average household income of 73,000. The mall boasts a number of 127 retailers, offering 1,165,000 square feet of retail space, and ample parking, for which no valet parking is mentioned. The shopping hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
The concierge service is good, but not great, offering only the basic directions and information, free wheelchairs for people with disabilities, and kiddie kruzzers for easy shopping with children, thus attracting average families. There are 11 eateries in the food court and 6 full-service restaurants where people can eat and have a good time inside the mall.
There are opportunities for work at all retailers, but the security department is the most generous in demand. Unfortunately, the mall had a cinema that was converted into a twin, but that was closed in the mid nineties and never reopened. Due to this, the entertainment section can only be found in the restaurants, as there isnít much to see in Bay Shore.
